A3 Siebdruck mit Acryltinte
My pledge for intimacy and against consumerism.
Personally, I really do hate shopping but what I chose to address here goes further than my preferences of how to spend a Saturday afternoon or Tuesday evening. These drawings are part of a series that speak to the ultimate rebellion against consumerism. As a woman*, and it is the woman who utters the phrase, what could be more radical than to openly opt out of being a consumer, a buyer of product after product after product. In this fight intimacy is my shining
knight and opponent to consumerism. It needs nothing but itself. It is impossible to commodify, ever rebelliously resistant to any attempt to make it available on demand. It is never transactional but always magical. These drawings oscillate between intimacy and loneliness. Contentment and restlessness. But ultimately it is a conversation and the celebration of the moment when you say: "I Hate Shopping" and someone else agrees with you. This series is my pledge to turn away from consumerism, hang up the wallet, and to stop selecting for just a minute.
